The Maple Grove Will Take You Back To a Simpler Time

As our guest, you will enjoy amenities unlike any other. After spending a long day, relax on our huge green space around a camp fire or walk among 100+ year old cedar and maple trees  or kick off the boots and enjoy an evening having a barbeque in our pavilion.

Welcome! I’m glad you’re here checking us out. We’re located at the tip of the Door Peninsula at a place called Gills Rock, Wisconsin. Just down the road is the Washington Island Ferry that crosses the Death’s Door Passage to Washington Island.  The Maple Grove was built in 1949 and was one of the first motels up here. It’s a great place to relax after a big day enjoying all that the near-by harbor towns have to offer. Like Restaurants, Winery’s, Cherry’s, Festivals, Art Galleries, Pottery, Outdoor Theater, Kayaking, Boating, Charter Fishing, Hiking, Beaches, Music, Clothing Shops, Quilt Shops, Biking, Marathons, and so much more! We only have 6 rooms so it’s quiet, secluded, surrounded by nature and best of all NO Crowds! We have a huge”Green Space” where you can walk in the woods amongst 100 yr. old Cedar and Maple trees that produced 100’s of gallons of Maple Syrup back in the day!  Within a short walking distance is the Island Clipper Tour Boat, Charlie’s Smoke Fish, Hedge Hog Gift Shop, Mariner’s Park and the Maritime Museum! If that’s not enough, you can walk to a fabulous restaurant with indoor and outdoor dining with a million dollar sunset view overlooking the Bay of Greenbay!  Not to mention the Best Fireworks on the July 4th!

Everything was great except the shower was super tiny & dirty.
My family loved the little activities on the property, definitely a nice touch.

There was a very noticeable musty smell in the room from the moment we arrived. The only way we were able to be relieved of it was by having the windows open which wasn’t possible at all times because of the outdoor temperatures. The room was sufficiently clean otherwise. You are definitely away from the lively communities at this motel. Location is more Gills Rock than Ellison Bay.

This review was your sign to stay at this place!! My bf and I couldn't have picked a better place, if you're looking for a cozy, quiet and peaceful place this is the spot! I love how it felt so private and away from the main areas, (but still close to everything) they provide the firewood and we did use it which was nice. I would definitely stay here again. You can tell they care about keeping the place nice and clean. Cozy is the perfect word to describe this place I was very happy to wake up there everyday.

The check in process was simple and seamless. Very cute yard for the units and activities. There is a firepit with free provided firewood and a pavilion with free grills with charcoal and lighter fluid provided. Along with ping pong, cornhole, and other items. Also very good hospitality, mentioned in the comments that the trip was for my girlfriend birthday and arrived to flowers and a printed drawing saying happy birthday sitting on the bed. I was impressed and pleased to see that they went out of their way to make sure that we felt accommodated.

We loved our stay at the Maple Grove Motel! Great location, check-in was easy, the room #1 has been remodeled. It was very clean and very roomy! Very quiet area. They have an area for ping pong, bags and nice tables to sit around outside. Also a nice firepit that is going in the evenings. Had a great time meeting others also staying there. We will be back!
Maple Grove is the kind of place where your kids can’t wait to get out of the car to check the garden for raspberries, cherry tomatoes, lettuce, herbs, sunflowers, or any other surprises that may be there. They run free and sleep hard, get excited about hot chocolate for breakfast in the pavilion and completely forget we even brought the iPad. It’s close enough to everything amazing in Door County (along with some hidden gems only Captain John will tell you about!) but also a world away so you can disconnect to reconnect and create the memories we always wanted together.

There is also a very neat outdoor pavilion in the center of the grounds where we have enjoyed sharing breakfast, swapping stories, meeting other people, and famous jam-okie sessions. We like to say this motel is ‘north of the tension line’ leaving lots of cares far away, and we usually have our next trip planned before we leave.

Local highlights:
*Newport Beach
*Charlie’s Smokehouse
*Kick Ash Coffee
*Twelve-Eleven Provisions

Was just thinking I was going to have to rough it in my car or head back toward Sturgeon Bay when I stumbled upon this gem at 9:45pm. Capt. John was so accommodating at such a late hr and when I told him that on my way to Door county I listened to Bluegrass (and discovered we both love Old Crow Medicine
Show) he offered up the Music Rm (#9).
I want to come back with a group to take advantage of the Pavillion and show them all the cool retro decor!

Found this place by luck a few years ago, and have been back every summer! Highlights:
- close to the Washington Island ferry, and Newport state park
- kid friendly. My kids loved running around the field behind the motel, playing badminton and volleyball, and making s’mores over the campfire
- social. We love the pavilion for hanging out or eating meals, and have loved meeting other guests and making new friends. There’s also FREE live music on the weekends. And the owner, Captain John, is pretty much the sweetest person on the planet.
- It is rustic (literally in the woods) and retro (straight outta 1970’s), but that’s part of the fun!
